The 2Learn.ca Professional Development Program is based on the philosophy that teachers are lifelong learners.  The key to success in integrating Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) into teaching practice is to provide a resource base and tools that make the technology transparent, while inspiring teachers to explore new ways of using technology.  If teachers are given a vision, motivated through inservice and modeling, supported by online resources, and provided with ongoing mentorship, significant progress can be achieved in the integration of ICTs into teaching practice.  Threaded through all of the processes and resources are the values and goals of teachers who take responsibility for their own learning, reflect on the way they teach, employ new practices in the classroom and take time to bring a colleague along on the journey to enhanced student learning.

The 2Learn.ca Education Society is a not-for-profit organization. The vision of the 2Learn.ca Education Society is that every citizen of tomorrow is a life-long learner, making optimal use of technology in all aspects of life. Our commitment is to discovering and rediscovering the potential of technology, transforming exceptional ideas into practice, and making these available to and achievable by learners of all ages.

More about the Alliance:

The strategic partnering of the Alliance members and supporters provides support to the 2Learn.ca Education Society to achieve its goals.  The ultimate "winners" in this partnership are the children of Alberta - our heritage and our future.

The mission of Alberta Education is to provide the best education for all Alberta students. By working in partnerships with Albertans, Alberta Learning will fulfill the provincial mandate: to ensure that all students have the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to be self-reliant, responsible, caring and contributing members of society.

The Alberta Teachers' Association, as the professional organization of teachers, promotes and advances public education, safeguards standards of professional practice and serves as the advocate for its members. It represents approximately 30 000 full-time and part-time active members and 14 000 substitute, associate, life and student members.

The College of Alberta School Superintendents (CASS) is an organization dedicated to the continuing development of quality education in Alberta. The goal of the association is to
  • serve the needs of public education by focusing on student learning and highlighting the contributions of public education to society;
  • serve the interests of the community by encouraging the consideration of educational issues; and
  • serve the needs of its members by promoting and upholding professional standards for the superintendency.

The Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta is one of the largest faculties in Canada with 9 undergraduate degree programs and a wide array of graduate degrees. With four teaching departments and one school, we employ over 120 full time professors, 50 support staff and 90 full and part-time sessional instructors and educate more than 3,380 undergraduate students and 860 graduate students. A recent study rated the Faculty of Education as the best overall in Canada.

More than 60 per cent of the elementary and secondary school teachers in Alberta are U of A graduates, 33 have become presidents of universities or colleges and over 25% of the current Deans of Education in Canada are alumni of this Faculty.

The Faculty of Education is committed to the discovery and dissemination of knowledge about teaching and learning. We promote the view that to be a professional educator is to continue to question, to reflect, to seek knowledge, and to be open to change
