Online Interactions in the
Innovative Junior High Classroom

Explore the classroom use of online interactives and Web 2.0 tools with the 2Learn.ca Teacher Team in this Academy. 2Learn.ca aggregates over 4600 educational online interactives and Web 2.0 tools specifically for teachers and students. Multiple sessions, opportunities to share and to extend the dialogue beyond the day are all part of this experience. Participants are encouraged to bring along their laptop.

Session Topics

A.M. Sessions


In the morning sessions, we will explore subject-specific exemplars of excellence in online and IWB interactives and their effective use in the classroom. Choose from sessions on:
  • Math
  • Science
  • Language Arts and Social Studies
  • Other - you will specify

P.M. Sessions


In the afternoon sessions, we will explore specific Web 2.0 tools for use in the classroom including:
  • Blogs and Wikis - learn about the steps to integrate blogs and wikis into your classroom practice. The session will showcase solid examples of classroom projects and teacher-resources.
  • Digital Representation Tools - this session will provide an overview of collaboration, video, image and other digital representation tools which allow students to represent their knowledge in innovative ways.
  • Rediscover Google Earth! - explore ways to use this dynamic tool in your Language Arts, Science and Social Studies classes. The session includes the use of new Google Earth plug-ins, support websites, Google Lit Trips and enabling students to create their own Google Earth interaction.

In addition to these sessions, participants will have the opportunity to join moderated groups in 2Learn2Gether.ca [our educator networking site] to share, receive additional support and resources, and converse with colleagues for several weeks following the initial face-to-face event.

 

Academy participants will have a chance to win one of two 'Netbooks.
